Those familiar with the earlier series (not forgetting two even earlier feature films) will find the new one has quite a lot of changes : additional characters and invented scenes and rather more in the way of humour. As well as the vet tales, it also includes events that were taking place at the time as the second World War was approaching.

Special Features, Video and More: Immerse yourself in an array of All Creatures Great and Small content we’ve created just for you! It's based of course on James Herriot's phenomenally popular tales of a vet's life in the Dales and spawned a long-running BBC series with a different cast. Once there, he quickly discovers that treating the animals is as much about looking out for their owners: there are plenty of people and animals to care for, challenges to meet, and life-affirming lessons to learn along the way. As a potential Second World War looms, all of the Skeldale family must consider their purpose in Darrowby and beyond. As Helen and James navigate their feelings for one another, a trip back to Glasgow in Series Two presents a dilemma which leaves James having to decide whether to follow his head or his heart. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. After being made joint business partner by Siegfried, James pushes to take on more responsibility via the Ministry of Agriculture's new bovine TB testing scheme, but its unexpected challenges risk pushing him to the breaking point. Dorothy Atkinson as Diana Brompton, a flirtatious divorcée who has a casual romance with Siegfried (series 2) All Creatures Great and Small is a television series, set in Northern England starting in 1937, [1] based upon a series of books about a Yorkshire veterinarian written by Alf Wight under the pen name of James Herriot.

Cover Notes: Fresh out of Glasgow Veterinary College, James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph) follows his dream to become a vet in the magnificent Yorkshire Dales. And now, "another one" (Yorkshire folk's welcome for the new assistant James Herriot, when he started his job with Siegfrid Farnons rural surgery) - not a better one, but also interesting, humorous, enjoyable.

A private residence in Grassington provides the outside view of Skeldale House and the Darrowby Show episode occurs in the town's still-cobbled market square. The Herriot novels were written in an episodic style, with each chapter generally containing a short story within the ongoing narrative of Herriot's life. With the added potential of looming war, our Skeldale family are forced to consider their purpose in Darrowby and beyond. Meanwhile, the Skeldale family is forced to consider its purpose in Darrowby and beyond as the Second World War looms. All Creatures Great and Small should treat themselves to a heart-warming trip to Yorkshire with this enchanting series.

I have seen the series which is absolutely great and a perfect remake of one of the best and most enjoyable series of the 1970's. It brings with it an amazing beauty and quality that sets it apart from the mediocrity of many of todays programs.Their adventures with the local animal populace in the incredibly beautiful pre-Second World War Dales run the gamut, from arms up cows' bottoms to tender birthing scenes, over-indulged pooches, horses with torsions and one moment which will strike a poignant note with pet owners of all ages. Having watched the original series again and again (years ago), enjoying the incredible charm and beauty of it, I must say the remake of 2020 holds up very well. A small morsel of extra joy: you may recognize a magical face amongst the other actors, his having been a regular in a famous film franchise.

It’s lovely to be able to watch them all again so many years after watching the series when it was aired on the BBC in the 1970’s. I am especially blown away to have learned that Alf's son and daughter were there during the wedding scenes. The series was produced by Playground Entertainment for Channel 5 in the United Kingdom and PBS in the United States.Overall this may actually be an improvement on the earlier versions and for a pandemic-stressed audience the sort of pleasurable entertainment with touches of grit that is very welcome. Although the DVD's within look perfectly fine, I do like my collection to look as it should so a little disappointed this time.
