Waid would continue to work on Wally West for nearly a decade, building a world that would keep the character running for years. When Wally hands her the mantle of Flash, it comes as a bit of surprise, but I was willing to go along thinking the next few issues would begin an exciting arc about Jesse. The best parts of this arc though, was watching Wally travel across the future on his way back home.

Thing is I've been a fan of animated Flash (Wally West) from DCAU and the animaed movies and I want the Flash that is most like the animated version. It sees Wally take down his former girlfriend Frances aka Magenta with the help of his former teammates Nightwing and Starfire.

Plus, Waid is the guy who introduced the Speed Force, and wrote the best Wally stories, including the stories that I felt matured Wally and settled him into the role. In later volumes, these supporting figures will be dropped for a more speedster family-focused title. Better find out fast—the longer Walter West stays on Wally’s Earth, the more he poses a threat to all of reality!

In April 2023, it was announced that Waid would be writing two new projects for DC set to launch in July 2023. Waid is perfect at capturing the ernest and realistic narration that doesn't feel cumbersome and carries the plot forward. First up is Kid Flash's Year One, followed up by an Aquaman appearance and a revamp of Abra Kadabra. From seeing Wally get his powers in a million-to-one exact repeat of the accident that made Barry Allen the Flash to Wally becoming more comfortable in his own skin as the Flash, this is a fun and light introduction to the character.Born in Hueytown, Alabama, Mark Waid has earned his living as a lounge singer, a magician, a disc jockey, an accountant, and in many other ways, but none of them as eclectic--or fun--as scripting comic books. The first is a three-issue DC Black Label miniseries entitled Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor, illustrated by Bryan Hitch.
